LIMERICK- Lorin Woodbury Smith, Jr., age 79, passed away on March 28, 2024, at St. Andre'
Health Care after a long and courageous battle with many health issues.
He was born in Portland, Maine on January 12, 1945, a son of the late Lorin W. Sr. and June
(Woodsome) Smith.
While attending Sanford High School Lorin participated in Football and Baseball (Pitcher). After
high school he graduated from Southern Maine Technical College with an Associate Degree in
Precision Machining & Manufacturing.
Upon graduation Lorin enlisted in the US Navy, serving 4 years with 2 of these on the USS Indra
in the waters of Vietnam and receiving various Service Medals.
When returning home, Lorin worked for Sylvania in Waterboro, and then finished his career at
Pratt Whitney in Berwick - retiring in 2001.
Lorin loved the outdoors. For many years he planted a large garden and shared the bounty with
family, friends and neighbors. He spent many hours hunting birds with his four legged friend,
Buster. He also spent many days deer hunting and thoroughly enjoyed all forms of fishing and
fly tying. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to his friends and neighbors.
Lorin is survived by his sister -Karen Moulton and her husband Michael of Newfield; his niece
Tabitha Nichols and her husband Ryan of Cornish; his aunt - Phyllis Smith of Yarmouth; his
cousin and good friend David Woodsome of North Waterboro; and several cousins.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 10 at 2pm at the Highland Annex Cemetery
