Obituary

Nikolas W. Lunny passed away unexpectedly at the young age of 30 on Monday, March 18, 2024, in Fall River, Massachusetts. Nik had a warm heart which he shared with everyone around him through his brilliant smile, wit, humor, laughter, and gentle doses of honesty. He loved hiking, cooking, the beach, his cats Enya and Darby, and making people laugh with many off-beat stories. Having a strong curiosity for the human mind, he achieved an MA in Clinical Psychology and a BA in Psychology.

Nik always put his warm heart and curiosity to work as he spent much time researching on behalf of and caring for people who struggle with behavioral health. From family to close childhood friends to colleagues, he leaves behind many who love him and continue to find strength through him.

He is the son of Lynn Costa who loves him more than trees, sun and sky and will always have her branches wrapped around him. He is grandson of Richard and Edwina Costa who keep the treasures of his childhood in their home and backyard. He is nephew to Lori Bernier, Sheri Costa and David Bernier, and cousin to Kayelynn, Michael and Brady who adore him and share the same wit, humor and infectious laugh, especially during crazy family gatherings where Nik is still there.

He is the son of the late William Lunny, grandson of the late Joseph and Shirley Lunny. He is nephew to Suzanne Schoonmaker, and Joseph and Jon Lunny, brother of Emma, and cousin to Griffin, Hayley, Kylie, Tyler, Will, Luke, Hannah and Matthew who are carriers of Nik’s kind heart.

He is a family member of Southcoast® Behavioral Health team who always embraced him as a perfectly loved human being, and The Bayside Restaurant team who is forever part of Nik through laughter and food.

We will hold a private celebration of Nik’s life this year.

In lieu of flowers, please help people in crisis by donating to Child and Family Services Services, care for animals by donating to or volunteering at Forever Paws in Fall River, Massachusetts, or plant a tree in Nik’s name by visiting arborday.org.

Most of all, please be Nik-kind, patient and understanding with yourself and all those around you in your piece of this world.
