John H. Murray, Jr., 88

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

John H. Murray, Jr. age 88, of Mansfield, formerly of Kissimmee, Florida and Hyde park, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Diana V. (Cane) Murray, to whom he was wed for sixty-three years.

Born in Boston, MA on October 13, 1935, he was a loving son of the late John H., Sr. and Eleanor M. (Cody) Murray.

John grew up in Quincy, was a graduate of North Quincy High School and had many fond memories of summers spent on Little Sandy Pond in Pembroke. During the time of the Vietnam War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

A resident of Mansfield for the past ten years, Mr. Murray worked for the telephone company, a career that spanned forty-eight years. He began as a Lineman for New England Telephone and retired as an Installation Manager when the company operated under the name of AT&T. Following his retirement, John served as head of telecommunications at the J. Baker Company in Hyde Park.

John’s family was always his first priority and he thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years. He was an avid golfer, loved doing jigsaw puzzles, crafts and was a true New England Patriots fan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Carol A. Abate of Mansfield, Linda A. Rego-Colantuno of Mansfield and Robert J. Murray and his wife Christine of Mansfield. He was the cherished grandfather of Kyle Rego and his wife Catherine of Mansfield, Justin Abate of Putnam, CT and the great grandfather of Alexandra Rego. He was the dear brother of Eleanor Nicklas and her husband Richard of Pembroke. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.

Services and burial will be private and visiting hours are omitted.
