Obituary

David R. “Dave” King, 79 of Hanson, passed away on March 15, 2024, with his two daughters by his side. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts on September 7, 1944, he was the son of the late Llyod and Phyllis (Maddox) King.

Dave was married to his wife Lorraine for 51 years before her passing in 2022. There was not a day that went by where he did not mention her. Devoted father to Dawn-Marie Lewis of East Bridgewater and Pamela Hall (and husband Brian Hall) of East Bridgewater. Proud Grandfather of Alexander Hall, Samuel Hall, Conor Lewis, and Colleen Lewis. Loving brother of Joanne Barry (and husband Richard Barry) of Naples, FL, and Elaine Parker (and husband William Parker) of Plymouth, MA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

David was predeceased by four brothers: George Eisner, Lloyd King, Roger King, and William King.

Dave was a proud U.S. Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam war from 1965 to 1969. He worked many years at Millard Metal Service Center Inc. of Braintree, MA as a machinist until his retirement.

After Lorraine’s passing, Dave would still venture to Hanson Town Hall and watch and feed the ducks and drink his coffee.

Dave loved to talk or as he would say “shoot the bull.” He would tell stories about being in the military, life growing up and politics. He loved to joke around; he had the best laugh, and he laughed a lot. He enjoyed going to luncheons with his friends Wayne and Terry. On Sunday evenings you would find him sitting in his recliner talking to his sister Joanne for hours. He enjoyed his ice coffees, coconut chocolate donuts and Dairy Queen Blizzards. He was interested in old cars and coin collecting. The most important thing in Dave’s life was family, whom he loved spending time with. He adored his grandchildren and wanted to spend every moment with them. He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Tuesday, April 2, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 3, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church (Holy Apostles Parish) on 1 Maquan St., Hanson.
