Michael P. McCart, 52, a passionate New England sports fan, died Sunday, March 17th at home. His wife of 21 years, Lynda M. (Porcaro) McCart died in 2022.
His love for his family was immeasurable. He is survived by his brother, William “Bill” McCart Jr., and his wife, Jennifer of Charlton; a sister, Margaret Gray, and her husband, Glenn of Oakham; his aunts, Linda Burke of Holden who was also Michael’s godmother, and Susan Miller of Worcester; a great aunt June Carelli of Worcester; four nieces and nephews; and 5 great nieces and nephews.
He was born in Worcester, the son of William J. McCart, Sr. and Patricia A. (Burke) McCart and graduated from South High School. At home, Michael found joy in the companionship of his cherished dogs, Shadow and Hunter, who were his loyal friends and brought him solace, especially after the loss of his beloved, Lynda, whose memory he honored every day.
Michael worked as an oil burner technician for many years, serving Worcester County with several area companies. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Michael’s heartbeat in sync with the seasons of baseball and football. His passion was ignited on the playing fields of his youth. He played football from childhood through his high school years and was a proud member of the Worcester Vikings where he was coached by his father. After his playing days, Michael remained an ardent supporter of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. The excitement of the games was a source of great joy in his life. He found peace in the simple pleasure of fishing; he relished every moment spent by the water.
Michael's competitive spirt shone brightly in the Worcester Dart League, where his sharp aim and friendly banter made him a beloved figure.
Calling hours are Wednesday, March 27th from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester followed by his funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
