John P. “Jack” Walsh
Retired Waban Postmaster

TEWKSBURY: John Patrick “Jack” Walsh, age 89, a resident of Tewksbury for 59 years and devout communicant of St. William’s Parish, passed away surrounded by his loving family, at Bayberry at Emerald Court in Tewksbury on Sunday, March 17, 2024, where he received excellent and compassionate care from the staff of Bayberry and Beacon Hospice in his last days.

He was the beloved husband of Lillian B. (McCauley) Walsh, who passed away January 20, 2015.

Born in Somerville on October 21, 1934, he was the son of the late Michael J. Walsh and the late Mary A. (Heanue) Walsh.

Jack was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School.

In 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War with the 573rd Transportation Company at Ft. Eustis in Virginia.

Following his honorable discharge from active duty, he attended Newbury Junior College, where he received an Associate Degree in Business Administration.

Jack was employed for 25 years as a letter carrier by the Somerville Post Office and later served as Postmaster for the Waban Post office until his retirement.

In his spare time, he treasured attending his grandchildren’s dance competitions and sporting events. In addition, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and traveling with his family to Bermuda and Ireland.

Jack is survived by three daughters, Karen Hayward and her husband Michael, of Litchfield, NH, Bernadette Villalpando and her husband William, of Tewksbury, and Erin Asselin and her husband Peter, of Tewksbury. He was the grandfather of Jonathan Villalpando and his wife Katie, Abigayle Villalpando, Joshua and Jennifer Asselin, Adam and Julia Hayward, and the late Kathryn Villalpando. Jack was the brother of James Walsh and his wife Judy, of Malden, and the late Anna Sheehan, Kay Kelleher, Theresa Dinsmore, Michael Walsh and Thomas Walsh. He leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Calling hours will be Saturday, March 23rd, from 9-11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury, followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury. Services will conclude with interment at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Into Action Recovery, Inc., P.O.
