Obituary

Thomas Kevin O’Horo, 79, of Middleboro, formerly of Whitman, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

Tom was born in Fitchburg, MA on April 29, 1944, the son of the late Thomas M. and Helen C. (Danahey) O’Horo.

Tom had a passion for furthering his education after graduating high school. From 1964-1968 he studied history and classics at Boston College and received his BA. Following that, he studied history at Boston College from 1968-1970 and accepted his Masters degree. Lastly, he went on to study American History at Rutgers University from 1970-1976, where he received his PhD.

Undoubtedly, Tom’s love for history and education led him to become a history and foreign language teacher from 1968-1973 at Ayer High School. Later, he taught history at Boston College High School from 1973-1984. Tom finished his career and spent from 1984-2004 as the Director of Guidance at Boston College High School. Throughout his 9 years part time as a Substance Use Counselor with Catholic Charities and 7 years part time as a Customs Inspector with US Customs Service at Logan Airport.

Community service was very important to Tom. He was a member and chairman of the Town of Whitman’s Finance Committee, a troop leader with the Boy Scouts of America, a coach with Whitman Little League, a member of Whitman Public School’s Parent Advisory Committee, and
a member of the Archbishop Williams High School Financial Aid Committee. Tom also volunteered his time with the Sacred Heart Food Pantry in Middleboro.

Tom’s hobbies consisted of traveling, biking, reading, and genealogy. Above all else his favorite was spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored. “Gramps” would be at all of his grandsons’ activities and sporting events. He was their biggest fan, taking immense pride and joy in sharing experiences with them while watching them grow.

Tom is predeceased by his beloved wife Mary Ann (Tympanick) O’Horo.

He is survived by his son Thomas T. and his wife Catherine E. O’Horo as well as his three grandchildren, Thomas J., Daniel P., and Alexander J. O’Horo all of Wyoming, RI. He also leaves behind his significant
other, Marian Matosky of Middleboro, MA.

Family and friends are invited to attend Tom’s visiting hours Friday, March 22, 2024 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM with a service to follow at 12:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman.
