Obituary

Steffi Greenbaum 1928-2024
Beloved artist Steffi Greenbaum died peacefully at home on March 13, 2024. Born Steffi Helene Rosenberg in Berlin on February 28, 1928, she was evacuated to England at age 11 on the Kindertransport. Her family thought they would never see her again, but she later reunited in Philadelphia with her parents Max and Alice and her older brother Rudy. She graduated from Temple University, earned an MFA at Tyler College of Art, and went on to have a long and rewarding career creating and teaching art.
On January 1, 1950, she married Bob “Milton” Greenbaum, a philosopher and dentist. After the world celebrated their fiftieth anniversary at the turn of the millennium on January 1, 2000, the couple moved to Falmouth, Maine to be close to their daughter Marcia and son-in-law Bob. They led the local Great Books group, and Steffi co-founded Maine Sculptors, a curated group that held several annual exhibitions at the Portland Public Library. A selection of her work can be seen at fineart.steffigreenbaum.com
Bob predeceased Steffi in 2005 at age 88. Her legacy is carried on by her daughters, Marcia Wake (Bob) and Paula Maas (Martin Turner), and her grandchildren Ben Wake (Owen Heil), Koren Wake (John Parejko), and Joseph Turner. We miss her.
