CHICOPEE - John P. Preston, 82, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was called to his eternal rest on Sunday, March 10, 2024. He passed into Eternal Life at his home following a valiant fight battling cancer. He was born in Hanover, New Hampshire on July 15, 1941, a beloved son of the late William Carlton Preston and Beatrice Elsie (Deuso) Preston and was raised in White River Junction, Vermont. He graduated from Hartford (VT) High School and received his Associate’s Degree from Northampton Commercial College. He settled in Chicopee around 2002. John served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard, was a former Auxiliary Police Officer with the Springfield Police Department, and was last employed as a Transportation Driver for Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was a former Assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where he served his community for many years as a volunteer for Renate’s Food Pantry at the church. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed going on cruises with his many friends. He leaves his two loving children, Karen L. Blanchard and her husband, David, of Holyoke and David J. Preston and his wife, Anne, of Toano, VA; and his six cherished grandchildren, Allyson Everett and her husband, Fred Andujar, Kristen Everett and her fiancé, Brian Swierzewski, Megan Everett, Sarah Preston, Nathan Preston and Matthew Preston. His relatives and friends are invited to a attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307) is assisting his family.
