Obituary

LIMERICK – Sandra “Sandi” Sasha Carroll Wardwell-Lynch, age 81 passed away on March 10, 2024, at the Southern Maine Center after battling several medical issues in the last six months.

Sandi was born in Bournemouth, England on August 24, 1942, the daughter of the late Donald Legge and Cecilia (Adams) Legge. Donald was a pilot in the RAF and Cecilia was dancer in the Royal Ballet. Shortly after Sandi’s birth they moved to Canada, then to Florida and ultimately settled on Islesboro, Maine.

Islesboro is where Sandi met her husband George Wardwell. After George was honorably discharged from the Air Force they also settled on Islesboro.

They lived there until about 1990. After moving to Belfast for a couple of years they moved to Limerick to be near their son, daughter in law and grandson.

Sandi was an amazing lady. She was an extremely talented artist and craftsman. Painting, drawing, quilting, music, writing, singing, ceramics and more. Her enthusiasm and energy had no bounds. She also was an extremely talented musician and singer. She self-taught herself how to play the organ, guitar and several other instruments.

Sandi single handedly owned and ran a pizza shop and restaurant for several years all while also pursuing her many other interests. Later in life she found her true calling as a CNA. She worked for several years at the Barron Center in Portland and also for Home Again. Her compassion and caring for others was unbounded.

After the death of her husband George and retirement from nursing she found love again and married John Lynch of Portland. They were together until John’s passing in 2010.

Sandi was also a member of the nationally acclaimed acapella group “The Sweet Adelines” and a active member and judge in DECMA (Down East Country Music Association).

Sandi is pre-deceased by her mother (Cecilia “Adams” Bertolet), father (Donald Legge), brother (Willam Legge), husbands (George Wardwell and John Lynch). She is survived by her sister, (Dee Maples) of South Carolina and brother, ( Walter Legge) of Phoenix, Arizona, son and daughter in l law, (Adam and Monica Wardwell) of Limerick, grandson,( Brian Wardwell) of Limerick and granddaughter, (Alyssa Wardwell) of Augusta and her beloved Chorkie “Winston”.

A celebration of life is being held at the Peppermill Restaurant in Limerick on Sunday March 24, 2024, from 1 to 5 p.m.

The family would like to say a special thanks to all of the staff at the Pinnacle nursing home in Sanford, the nurses and doctors at Southern Maine Medical Center, Limerick Fire Department Rescue, Lesa Woodsome and Matt Barron.
