Mr. William J. Flatley of Medfield, beloved husband of Louise A. (Lauterbach) Flatley, died peacefully at the Eliot Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Natick on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. He was 90 years old.

Born in Brookline on March 8, 1933, he was the 5th child of the late Patrick James and Margaret (Kelly) Flatley, originally of Bekan, Ireland. He attended St. Mary's High School in Brookline and graduated from Boston College with a degree in History in 1955. A US Army veteran, William served in Heilbronn, Germany from 1956 to 1958.

He was promoted to Chief Booking Officer in 1968. After his retirement in 1986, he continued working nights at the Deaconess while also working seasonally at the IRS' offices in Government Center, which he enjoyed commuting to via train for more than 20 years.

In his spare time, Bill was happiest taking long walks, sharing crossword puzzles with his wife, tending to his lawn, listening to classical music, and meeting up with his 12 brothers and sisters. He also loved rooting for the Red Sox and Patriots, watching the local news, reading The Boston Globe, and vacationing in South Chatham. Above all, Bill loved his home at 4 Bayberry Road and his family. He will be dearly missed.

In addition to his wife Louise, he is survived by his children Suzanne L. and her husband Michael A. Ciccone of Boxborough; Christopher M. and his wife Shannon L. Flatley of Slate Hill, New York; and Kerin A. and her husband Samuel A. Miller of Andover; siblings Sister Mary Flatley of Windham, NH; Katherine (Kitty) Peters of Livermore, CA; Father Brian Flatley of Boston; Kevin Flatley of Methuen; and Virginia (Ginny) Butler of Wakefield; grandchildren for whom he was “BeBe,” Grace, James, Leo, Norah, Colin, Sadie, Jonas, and Cameron; and many nieces and nephews for whom he was “Uncle Bill.” He was also the brother of the late Francis Flatley, James Flatley, Margaret Pomer, Thomas Flatley, Paul Flatley, Ellen Corey, and Monica McIntyre.
