GILFORD ---- Pauline Delores (Hellems) Stanberry, 88, of Gilford, NH passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, while at home.
Pauline was born on April 11, 1935, in Quinwood, WV, the daughter of the late Elmer and Maggie Hellems. She was married to Dennis Stanberry for 56 years, who predeceased her in death.
She is survived by daughter Denise Jacobs and her husband David, of Bogalusa, LA; her son Kevin Stanberry and his wife Charlotte, of Henrico, VA; her daughter Allyson Garcelon and her husband Stephen, of Gilford, NH; sisters Sharon Johnson and her husband Gary, of Rainelle, WV, and Margaret Stauffer and her husband Ron, of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren Jennifer Wade and Benjamin Stanberry; 10 great-grandchildren, and her constant feline companion, Sami. All will miss her compassion, love, thoughtful guidance, and counsel.
Pauline embraced unconditional love and bestowed it to her family, friends, and all of whom she met. She was a kind, compassionate, thoughtful, open-minded, and accepting person. She was artistically gifted with a flair for poetry, painting, and crafts. Impeccably dressed and she always presented herself with style and grace, regardless of the occasion. Pauline was an avid reader and had a thirst for knowledge that was insatiable. She immersed herself in the NY Times and confidently completed the crossword puzzle in ink, occasionally bragging about her success. Throughout her life she was involved in community endeavors, whether it be church activities, art groups, the “Red Hats”, or Coast Guard committees. She was an excellent conversationalist who was well informed, funny, and possessing a sharp wit with an edge of playfulness. Pauline and Dennis traveled the country exploring new places and always looking for an adventure. Much like Dennis, she never met a stranger and embraced all those she met along the way.
At this time there will be no services.
The family thanks all the amazing hospice caregivers at Granite VNA who were thoughtful, loving, and caring.
