Obituary

Penelope A. (Wheeler) Rudkin, 79, of Whitman, Massachusetts died peacefully on February 28th at South Shore Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Brockton, Massachusetts, and daughter to the late Robert and Marion “Maxine” (Whiting) Wheeler, she graduated from Whitman-Hanson Regional High School in 1962.

Penny was a stay-at-home mom for many years, with a notable career as a Homemaker for a local Visiting Nurse Association where she doted on her clients. She was also a Girl Scout leader and Sunday School teacher for many years. She spent her life caring for those she loved. Her most cherished title was “Nana” to her four grandchildren, whom she fiercely adored.

Penny was a small-town girl at heart, appreciating the familiarity of people and places while making new friends wherever she went. She loved Hallmark movies and the Game Show Network (especially Family Feud), reading, sending greeting cards to friends and family for all occasions (with stickers!), puzzles, gardening, and shopping. Most of all, she loved spending time with family.

Penny was a loving wife to the late Wayne A. Rudkin and missed him dearly following his passing in 2013. She is survived by their daughter Pamela and her husband, John Driscoll, of Rockland; daughter Vandy and her husband, Jeff Densmore, of Bridgewater; granddaughter Julia Driscoll of Bridgewater; grandsons Shane, Brian and Colin Driscoll of Rockland; sister Susan and her husband Harry Bennett of Whitman; brother Robert Wheeler and his wife June of Whitman; her brother Mark Wheeler and his wife Karla of St. Michael, MN; her sister-in-law Sheila (Rudkin) Plouf of Whitman; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many caring friends whom she considered family.
