Obituary

William Leo Martin, aged 81, peacefully passed away at his home on February 12, 2024, with his beloved wife Elizabeth M. (Vieira) Martin by his side. For more than six decades, he shared a deeply cherished bond with Elizabeth, having exchanged vows on June 29, 1963, at Saint Anthony's Church.

Born on October 6, 1942, in Lowell, William was the son of the late Joseph H. Martin and Anita (Landry)(Martin) Brabant. He spent his formative years in Lowell, receiving his education within the city. William's dedication to learning led him to Lowell Tech, where he diligently pursued his education in Accounting. Despite the demands of his daytime employment, William persisted, eventually earning his associates, bachelors, and masters degrees in Accounting in 1975 through evening classes.

Throughout his professional journey, William contributed his skills to various organizations, including Ideal Tape, for over 20 years, and ECC High Voltage, where he served as an accountant. In his youth, he also ventured into furniture delivery for Comfort Bedding. William's commitment to personal growth extended beyond academia and career; he was a steadfast friend of Bill W. for 32 years.

Among his many interests, William found solace in literature and enjoyed watching videos. A faithful member of Saint Anthony's Church where he was the CCD Director for 5 years, he actively participated in the Dom Polski Club and the East End Club. William's affinity for word puzzles showcased his sharp intellect.

Music was a source of joy for William, who cherished dancing with his wife and strumming his guitar. Family travels, particularly to Canada during his children's youth, created lasting memories for him.

William leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his daughter, Dianne Abell, and her husband Timothy of Big Lake, Alaska, and his son, William C. Martin, residing in Casper, Wyoming. He was a proud grandfather to Donna, Michelle, and Gloria, and a doting great-grandfather to Mckinley, Maisie, Kyley, Leona, Mia, and Lillian. William is also survived by his siblings, Dorothy Bardsley and her husband Bob, Pauline Brown and her husband Bob, Joe Martin and his wife Elaine, Dolly Gregoire, Lorraine Cote. His brother in law, William C. Vieira and his wife Nancy, his sister in law, Theresa Duguay and her husband Rick, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his siblings Doris Brown, Shirley Nicholaou, Yvette Champoux, Helen Martin, Richard Martin, Albert Martin, and Alfred Brabant.

All are welcome to attend his calling hours on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell.

His funeral will begin on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 9am at the funeral home, his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell, followed by burial in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
