Thomas “Tom” Gustafson, of North Reading, formerly of Medford and Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 9th. Loving husband of the late Genevieve (Kinsella) Gustafson. Father of Denise Callahan and her husband John of Falmouth, Deborah O’Brien and her husband Patrick of North Reading, Diane Lightbody of Lowell, the late Thomas J. of Medford, Keith Gustafson and his wife Melissa of Wakefield and Jennifer Fichera and her husband Matthew of Reading. Tom is Grandfather to Jason, Nicole, Danielle, Patrick, Michael, Jenna, Stephanie, Alexandra, Ava, Harper, Morgan, Matthew, Mia, and Timothy. Great Grandfather to Riley, Colton, Autumn, Nolan & Ava. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Tom was born and raised in Brooklyn and shared many stories of growing up on 54th street. He was a lifelong NY Giants fan and never got over the Dodgers moving to LA.
Tom enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Newfoundland Canada where he met the love of his life, Genevieve. In 1965 the family settled in Medford. Tom was a carpenter who worked 35 years at Polaroid until his retirement. Tom loved being around his kids, grandkids and great grandkids and would often be found attending their events.
Relatives & friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden, MA on Thursday February 15 from 4-7 PM. All are welcome to attend Tom’s Funeral Mass celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden on Friday February 16 at 10 AM. Services will conclude with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
