Obituary

Robert A. Edge, 74, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, February 10, 2024, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Allen Arowood and the Rev. Earl Perry officiating. His son, Robbie Edge, will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Edge was born May 19, 1949, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late William Milton & Eva Virginia Arowood Edge. He was a 1967 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and took drafting courses at Ben Hill-Irwin Tech. He later attended South Georgia College in Douglas. Mr. Edge served his country honorably in the United States Navy where he was stationed aboard the USS Robert L. Wilson. He worked for over 30 years at Delco Remy/Delphi Automotive Systems where he began as a machinist and retired as a statistical process control advisor. He then worked for MDI for 10 years, helping to set up their quality control processes, until his health forced his retirement. Known for his artistic ability, Mr. Edge will be remembered for murals he painted on the Shoe Hospital and at Jaycee Stadium as well as logo work for The Dove’s Nest. He loved his family dearly and lived for his grandchildren, who loved him greatly in return. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lynda Fuller Edge of Fitzgerald; a daughter, Dorinda Deanne Edge Young & Allen of Fitzgerald; a son, Robert Allen “Robbie” Edge, Jr. & Robin of Brooklet; grandchildren: Kayla Griffin & Kyle, Allen Young & Jessica, Kara Massey & Adam, Dalton Young, Morgan Edge, and McKenzie Edge; great-grandchildren: Kaden Griffin, Kenslie Griffin, Maverick Rocker, and Callen Massey; mother-in-law, Tiny Giddens of Fitzgerald; sister-in-law, Mary Hobby of Fitzgerald; brother-in-law, Tommy Fuller of Fitzgerald; an aunt, Kathy Arowood of Fitzgerald; a niece, Terri Ann Edge of Omega; along with several cousins. He is also survived by three close friends and former co-workers: Bill Dorough, John Warren, and Robert Paul. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Wayne Edge.
