Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Elaine M. (Seguin) Martin, 97, of the Sixteen Acres section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on November 23, 1926, a beloved daughter of the late Oscar and Blanche (St. Martin) Seguin. She graduated from Classical High School in Springfield, Class of 1945, lived with her husband, Delmar who served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Key West, FL, San Francisco, CA, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, before returning to Springfield where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a Cafeteria Worker for the Springfield Public School Department. She also served the city as a Poll Worker and later as the Warden of the Polls. She was a communicant of Saint Catherine of Siena Church in Springfield where she was a member of the Saint Catherine Women's Guild since 1980. She was also a member of the Sixteen Acres Civic Association. Elaine was an avid Red Sox fan, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Delmar G. Martin who was Called Home on July 2, 1996. She leaves her five loving and devoted children, Mary A. Martin and her husband John P. Cronin, of Harwich Port, Sandra L. O'Neil and her husband, Kevin, of Springfield, Barbara St. Martin Cho of Norwood, NJ, Carole E. Natour and her husband, Jamal, of Longmeadow, and David E. Martin of Springfield; her dear son in law, Timothy Hughes of Grandview, ID; her 13 cherished grandchildren, Richard Deyo and his wife, Tamika, Kevin Deyo and his wife, Lori, Jonathan Cho, Lauren St. Martin Cho, Stephanie Cho, Zakia Griffin and her husband, Jason, Omar Natour, Ramzi Natour, James Campbell, Stephen Campbell and his husband, Michael, William Hughes, Michael Hughes, and James Hughes; her seven great grandchildren; and her extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving daughter, Janet E. Campbell-Hughes. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:15 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 1023 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109.
