Obituary

Dorsey E. Van Pelt, 80, of Brook Hill Road, Glocester, RI, passed away on Thursday October 26th in the VA Medical Center, Providence. He was the husband of the late Carol A. Van Pelt. They had been married for 55 years.

Born in Fairmont, West Virginia, a son of the late Thurman and Grace (Gear) Van Pelt. He had previously lived in Atlanta, GA prior to the Navy bringing him to Rhode Island. He called Smithfield home for 15 years. He also lived in Concord, NC, Pawtucket, Land O Lakes, FL and Johnston.

Dorsey always liked trout fishing and hunting (many years ago). He loved his Baltimore Orioles, Miami Dolphins, horse racing and car racing. More than anything, he was all about his family.

He leaves his sons, Randy E. Van Pelt and his wife Diane of North Smithfield, Gregory G. Van Pelt of Glocester, Jeffrey E. Van Pelt of North Providence, and Wayne Hall of Galveston, TX. He was the grandfather of Amanda Van Pelt, Brian Van Pelt, Gabrielle Hall, Sebastian Hall, Chelsea DiGiacomo, Amanda Verdoia and Ashley Cook. He was the great-grandfather of Noah, Logan, Macey, JD, Jackson, Dominic, Luca, Jordan, Tyler and Addison. He is also survived by his brothers, John Van Pelt of South Carolina and Jerry Van Pelt of Georgia.

His Funeral will be held Wednesday November 1st at 12noon in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial with Military Honors will be in the RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter, RI. Visitation will be held Tuesday October 31st from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the VA Medical Center, 830 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence, RI 029808
