Obituary

Rita C. (Harrington) Quirk passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2023, surrounded by the love and comfort of her daughters.

Born and raised in Somerville, she was the devoted daughter of the late Rita (McGowan) and Arthur J. Harington. Rita spent her childhood surrounded by extended family. She moved to Winthrop after graduating from Somerville High School. She went on to work as a telephone operator. She eventually retired from BNY Mellon where she worked as a receptionist.

Rita leaves behind a family she loved unconditionally, including her daughters and their husbands, Dawn and Jim Letterie, and Tracy and Chris Carlsen, as well as her two beloved grandchildren, Jake and Jenna Letterie. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Adamson, and her nieces Robin Murphy, Kelly Adamson, and Jill Buccini, along with their children, Taylor, Mark, Shannon, Ryan, and Heather. She was predeceased by her siblings Ann Crossman, and Mary and Arthur (Buddy) Harrington.

Rita enjoyed the time she spent with her three sisters. They spent nearly every day together. The four of them were often seen doing errands or taking rides around Winthrop.

Rita cherished the time she spent vacationing at the beach with her family. She especially loved the Cape Cod National Seashore. She would swim for hours and walk for miles along the shore.

Rita loved to dance and enjoyed spending time at the Winthrop Senior Center, tap dancing, line dancing and doing Zumba. She was a proud member of the Seaside Tappers. She had a wonderful group of friends at the Senior Center, and enjoyed going on day trips and out to lunch with them.
