Obituary

Sheldon Zaval, 95, of East Bridgewater, MA died on June 25th, surrounded by his loving family and caretakers. He was born in Plymouth, MA in 1928, the 2nd child of David & Esther (Bilsky) Zavalcofsky.

Sheldon’s grandparents were founding members of Congregation Beth Jacob in Plymouth MA, along with several other families from the western Russian Empire guberniyas known today as Lithuania.

He lived in East Bridgewater for more than 70 years, raising five children with his wife Irene. Sheldon was a skilled Coremaker at The Henry Perkins Co. for more than 50 years and a member of the Glass, Molders, and Pottery International Union, serving as President of Local 211 during the 70’s.

Sheldon and his wife Irene were members of the East Bridgewater Union Congregational Church for 69 years. For many years, Sheldon was a Deacon and caretaker of all things mechanical within the church building.

Sheldon is predeceased by Irene, his devoted wife of 74 years. He was predeceased by his brother Milton Zavalcofsky, and sisters Shirley Brustin and Diane Eubanks. Sheldon is survived by his children Beverly O’Rourke and her husband Frank of East Bridgewater, MA, Kenneth Zaval and his wife Maura of Pembroke, MA, Dorothy Cushman and her husband James of Pickens, South Carolina, and Edward Zaval and his wife Kelly of Manchester, MA. Sheldon was predeceased by his son Barry Zaval. Sheldon was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Sheldon and his family are deeply grateful to the Old Colony Hospice staff, his live-in caretaker Kaitlyn Shepherd, and to his longtime caregivers Maria Rebeiro and Iloisa Teixeira for their steadfast care that allowed Sheldon to live his best elderly years in the home that he loved.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at the East Bridgewater Union Congregational Church, 105 Pleasant Street, East Bridgewater, MA 02333, Friday July 7th from 10 a.m.- 11 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.
