Shirley Zimmermann was born to Willam and Priscilia Zimmermann on May 13,1934 in Milwaukee, WI. She was to be the second of four children, all girls. She is survived by her sister Mary Langlois (Tucson, AZ), Brother-in Law Dr. James Means (Lompoc, CA), and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley grew up in Milwaukee and Tucson graduating from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She went on to receive a Master's in Education (Reading Specialist) at the University of Arizona and later a Master's in the Arts of Theology at St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN. She finished her education with Graduate Study in Counseling and Graduate Study in Educational Administration at California State University Northridge.
After teaching elementary school in Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Washington, and Northern California; Shirley moved to Ventura. Here she was either a Director of Religious Education, a Teacher, and/or a Principal of the school in the following parishes/schools: Santa Clara High School, Sacred Heart Parish/School, St. Sebastian Parish/School, and Holy Cross School.
After retiring, she continued in education as a Reading Specialist and Site Supervisor for the Adult Literacy Programs through Ventura County Libraries. For several years Shirley taught in a home school program helping children to learn socializing skills. She also taught in the Ventura Sylvan Learning Center, not to mention the numerous private tutoring sessions that the students would co me to her for help.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by Fr. Leon Hutton on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 10am in Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 3175 E. Telegraph Road, Ventura. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura.
