Salem: Robert R. Dionne age 61 of Salem, died Saturday afternoon at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Catherine C. (Caron) Dionne with whom he shared 33 years of marriage. Born and raised in Salem he was the son of the late Emile W. and Marion (Richard) Dionne. A veteran of the Viet Nam War, he served overseas with the Navy. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem and worked at the Charlestown Naval Yard. For many years, he was employed by General Electric Co., in Lynn. Politically active, he was involved in the Democratic City Committee in both Salem and Beverly. Mr. Dionne was a kind, giving and good humored man who was particularly generous with the St. Jude Leukemia Research for Children Foundation. He was a member of Ste. Anne Parish, Knights of Columbus Salem Council, Moose Lodge, Lafayette Associates, A.O.H. and the Ward II Social Club all of Salem. He was a former member of the Richelieu Club of Salem and VFW Post 1524.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons: Robert A. Dionne and his wife Gretchen of Salem, Marc E. Dionne of Salem, 1 sister: Rita M. French of Salem, his mother-in-law: Christine Caron of Salem, 1 niece: Dawn French, 2 nephews: Steven French & Brian Dionne several aunts, uncles and cousins and man’s best friend Miss Blossom. He was predeceased by 2 brothers: Richard F. and Bernard R. Dionne.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Wednesday (January 25th)at 8 am from the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem followed by his funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, Salem at 9 am. Visiting hours: Tuesday 3 to 7 pm. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Northshore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
