Obituary

On August 5, 2019 Joseph E. Yeager “Pappy”, beloved husband of Mary J. Yeager and devoted father of Jeannine M. Morrison and husband Terry, Michelle A. Wenzel and husband Thomas, and Steven P. Yeager and wife Barbara. Loving grandfather of Joey, Mike, Krissy, Angie, Don, Tracey, Ashely, Ana, and great-grandfather of Ava, Hazen, Kruse, Shiloh, and Skyla. Dear brother of June Yeager, Betty Brosch and the late Marie Trexler, William Yeager, Jack Yeager, Gertrude Bender and Ruth Yeager.
Joe grew up in Altoona, PA where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing as an accomplished trumpet player in the high school band, local bands, and the PA National Guard. He retired from Lucent/ AT&T in Cockeysville, MD. He continued to be an active member in its retirement groups and enjoyed lunches with former co-workers at Andy Nelsons. Joe spent many years as a leader in his local Boy Scout troop and enjoyed spending time with friends at the Cockeysville Senior Center gym and activities center.
His favorite past time was fishing. He was an avid bass fisherman and spent many days on the waters of Loch Raven reservoir and fishing the rivers of the eastern shore with his friends in his fishing club. The group enjoyed several extended trips fishing the rivers and lakes of Virginia, South Carolina, and other areas.
Most of all Joe loved his family. Starting as childhood sweethearts, his love for his wife Mary remained strong and unwavering until his last days. In addition to having Mary at his side, nothing made Joe happier than spending time with his family. Whether it was a visit with Altoona family, a Sunday dinner, a holiday gathering or special moments with his beloved grandchildren, Joe was happiest with family.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, August 10th at 11 A.M. in The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 8501 Loch Raven Blvd. Inurnment private. In lieu of flowers please make donations in his memory to Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org
