Richard W. Weir, Sr., age 81, of Norton, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Gloria J. (Askew) Weir, to whom he was wed for sixty-one years.
Born in Eastondale, MA on February 6, 1938, he was a loving son of the late Arthur R.F. Weir and the late Gertrude (Hanson) Stevens.
Richard grew up in Eastondale and was educated in Easton Schools. He had made his home in Norton for over fifty years and prior to retiring had been employed for seventeen years as a mechanic and groundskeeper at Wheaton College in Norton. He had previously worked as a shoe-last and a card printer.
Mr. Weir was a member and healer at the First Spiritualist Church in Rehoboth which was formerly located in Brockton. He was also a former member of the Easton Rod and Gun Club. His hobbies included photography, gardening, hunting and fishing and he loved spending time with his adoring family.
In addition to his wife, He is survived by his devoted children: Richard W. Weir, Jr. of Norton, Timothy C. Weir and his wife Lynnette of Norton and Vicki J. Nixon of Norton. He was the dear brother of Carl Weir of Plymouth, NH and the late Charles, Arthur, Emily, Josephine, Naomi and Beatrice. He is also survived by his cherished 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
A service in celebration of his life will be held at a later and location to be announced. Burial will be private and visiting hours are omitted.
