Obituary

Joyce Youngblood Coleman, 92, of Tifton passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Legacy Village in Tifton. Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Chip Grantham officiating. Mrs. Coleman will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 25, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Bob Bowman, Mark McGill, Dick Kitchens, Tommy Bowen, Sam Bowen, Mike Smith and Rod Heyerdahl will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Loyalty Sunday School Class at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church.

Born July 9, 1926 in Orianna, Mrs. Coleman was the daughter of the late James Arlington Youngblood and Sally Kitchens Youngblood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Lee “Bob” Coleman, to whom she was married for 68 years; three brothers; and four sisters. Joyce graduated from Soperton High School and from Andrew College and Mercer University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She taught school in Tifton for 25 years and then worked for nine years as the Business Manager for Robert Coleman Optometrist. She had served as President of Tifton’s Junior Women’s Club and President of Tifton’s Camellia Garden Club. She was a member of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Loyalty Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Coleman is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James Robert and Dwana Coleman of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Phillip Belfower of Chula; three grandchildren, James Robert “Jay” Coleman, Jr., Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Belflower and her fiancé, Clint Bloodsworth and Barton “Lee” Coleman; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Leigh Coleman and James Robert “Trey” Coleman, III.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Tifton Memorial Fund, 107 12th Street West, Tifton, GA 31794; or the Alzheimer’s Association, SW Georgia Regional Office, 225 Second Street East, Tifton, GA 31794.
