Helena (Monte) Faria, 88, of New Bedford passed away Friday June 21, 2019 at the Oaks Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John A. Faria; they had been married for 53 years.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Antone and Rosalina (Pimentel) Monte, she had lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Mrs. Faria was formerly employed as a quality control manager at Calvin Klein in New Bedford until her retirement.
Helena was devoted to her family. She enjoyed traveling and going to Foxwoods with her late friend Bernice Openshaw; they were known as "Laverne & Shirley." She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
Survivors include a son, Robert A. Faria and his wife Elizabeth, of New Bedford; two daughters, Linda Martins and her husband Jorge, and Brenda St. Laurent, all of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Wendy Marinelli, Lisa Bates, Scott DeTerra, Bernadette Barreira and Adam Faria; and nine great-grandchildren, Kyle Hamel, Tyler Marinelli, Hunter and Owen Bates, Michaela, Mackenzie, and Garrett Barreira, Ryan and Matthew Faria.
Her Funeral will be held on Tuesday June 25th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10 AM.
