.Reverend Walker C. Farrar Jr. was born on January 21, 1959 in Brooklyn, NY, to the parentage of Walker Camp Farrar Sr. and Rose Marie (Ricketts) Farrar. He received his early education in the New York public school system. He would later go on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from SUNY College in Old Westbury, NY.
Walker eventually relocated to Boston, Massachusetts to attend Tufts University. Walker met the love of his life, Freddie, while studying medicine at Tufts. Swept off his feet by Freddie’s beauty and sweet spirit, he proposed to her on their first date. While his initial proposal was rebuffed, they would join together in Holy Matrimony a year later. God would bless Walker and Freddie’s union with two beautiful daughters: Alanna and Allegra.
As a student at Tufts, Walker also developed a keen sense of call to Christian ministry. This call led him to seek further theological training and education at the Boston University School of Theology and Ministry. Walker was a Mary Mcleod Bethune academic scholar at Boston University, and graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in theological studies in 2000.
Walker took his charge as a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ very seriously. He provided diligent, loving and humble service to God’s people. He served in a vast array of ministries at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Boston, MA., Ebenezer Baptist Church, Boston, MA., and Concord Baptist Church of Boston, Milton, MA. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in May 2009, and subsequently served as the Interim Pastor at the Baptist Church of All Nations, Taunton, MA (2012-2016), and Beth Eden Baptist Church, Waltham, MA (2017-2019). Walker was also a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for Worcester County, MA, and a Constable with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, Child Support Enforcement Division.
Aside from his commitment to serving God’s church, Walker was a committed and loving husband and father. He loved to travel the world with his family, taking family trips to places like Europe, Costa Rica, Panama and Hawaii. Walker was intentional in being a vital part of each and every aspect of his daughter’s lives. Whether it was dance recitals, school activities or watching the movie, “The Sound of Music,” he maximized every moment with his children.
Walker had a variety of skills and interests that enriched the lives of so many people. He used his training as a black belt to teach others karate. As “Mr. Christmas,” his elaborate Christmas decorations brought joy to everyone who visited his home. His ability to stitch and repair clothing earned him the nickname of “family tailor.” His selfless and charitable personality led him to spend countless hours plowing the walkways and driveways of his neighbors after snowstorms.
Walker lived life to the fullest and never complained, even as he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) on May 1, 2017. He demonstrated remarkable resolve and the tenacity of a warrior as his diagnosis resulted in progressive physical difficulties. Walker or “Mr. Awesome” always smiled and lived on his own terms with his disease. Rev. Walker Farrar Jr. transitioned from this life to the presence of his Master on June 12, 2019. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife Freddie J. Farrar; two daughters: Alanna Farrar and Allegra Farrar; one sister: Julie Farrar, of Roselle Park, NJ; three sister-n-laws: Ruth Villard, Laura Stephens (Joe), Loice White (George); six nieces: Eunice Stephens, Joslyn Stephens, Tara White, Keena Villard, Katrina Adams, Amanda Suriel; four nephews: Christopher Villard, Yves Villard, Robert Suriel, Donald Villard; one godchild: Millicent Day; and many other loving family and friends.
Visiting will take place at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home from 4-8 pm on Friday, June 14 .Funeral service to be held at the Concord Baptist Church, 180 Blue Hill Ave. Milton, at 10:00 am Saturday, June 15. Interment at Canton Corner Cemetery.
