- Celebrating the Lives of Veterans -

Rest in peace, Grampy Thurl. Your endless dedication, wisdom, and wit will always be something that I hold close to my heart. It was an honor and a privilege to see the embodiment of the American Dream in my grandfather. I can easily say that I wouldn't be anything near who I am today if it weren't for this man.
I have never seen a human being with the sheer amount of patience that this man possessed. He loved to play chess with me at a young age, but back then it annoyed me how long it took him to take his turn. Now I understand that he was taking the time to predict every possible move in order to keep the game even for us. He created a forgiving learning environment and taught me patience all at once. Although he never would let me win
He always saw the best of my imaginative side as well, and for this I am forever grateful. He's the one that showed me Star Wars, after all. He could make just about anything out of wood and he was eager to teach me anything he could. Our projects would range from building model battleships to making Mumbo's magic wand from the game Banjo Kazooie, since I thought it would be cool to have. Because of this man my childhood was limitless. Without him I may very well be on a different career path and be a different person entirely.
Thank you for everything, Grampy. I love you so much. I'll see you again someday and I'll show you some of my illustrations and designs
