Mary Lewis Walker, 92, of Tifton, Georgia, died Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Maple Court in Tifton.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald. Lisa Smith Daughtrey and Craig Nalls will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10-11 Wednesday morning at Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Walker was born November 4, 1926, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Lewis Neighbor & Lucile Dorminy Walker. She was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School. She earned her degree in secretarial science from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and played piano for the Glee Club. She worked as secretary to the Comptroller at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Mrs. Walker was a mentor to many international students during their time in school. She enjoyed visiting Fernandina Beach and Lake Blackshear. Mrs. Walker was a member of First Baptist Church of Tifton. She and her late husband were very mission minded and went on many youth and other mission trips. She helped form the I-75 hospital ministry, assisting families that were stranded in the Tift County area. She was a very giving person who never met a stranger.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Milt & Kellie Walker of Tifton, Nancy W. & Tommy Pace of Sylvania, Kathi W. Taylor of Rayle, and Beth W. & Doug Hurt of Tifton; eight grandchildren: Kim & Steve Hinley, Julie & Richard Stubbs, Allen & Sara Pace, Melissa Harper, Lucy Walker, Sam Walker, Clint Donald, and Elizabeth Ann Hurt; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Betty Gordon of Albany. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Milton E. Walker and a brother, Henry Scott Walker.
