Obituary

Therese A. Chuckran died peacefully surrounded by her family at the All-American Assisted Living facility in Londonderry, NH, on May 13, 2019 at the age of 98. She was the wife of 48 years of John Chuckran who predeceased her in April 1989.

Therese was born in Pawtucket, RI on December 16, 1920, the daughter of Paul Emile and Diana (Boudreau) Benoit. The Benoit family moved to Taunton, MA shortly thereafter. She attended Taunton Public Schools and graduated in 1938. She met John Chuckran and they married in 1941. The couple lived in Taunton for a short period of time before moving to Bridgewater, MA.

Therese and John began a family construction business where she did payroll and bookkeeping. As the business flourished so did the size of their family. By 1959 there were five sons and the family business had expanded.

Therese deeply loved her family and was proud of her five boys, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She particularly enjoyed baking and cooking for them and was famous for her cookies and pastries as well as her home-made spaghetti sauce.

She was a woman of strong faith, and shared that faith with her children. She was an active member of Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Bridgewater. She taught CCD for many years and gave her time and resources to many charities. For many years, her home on North Street was a favorite stop of walkers for the “Hike for Hunger”. She lived her faith through many acts of kindness shown to family, neighbors and friends.

Never one to sit still, she loved to travel and was always ready for a new adventure. She enjoyed many trips with her friends and family, some by plane, some by cruise ship, and some in her favorite mode of transportation, her car. Her hobbies also included painting and enjoying the beauty of nature, particularly the birds and wildlife that visited her backyard.

She held a deep love and connection to her siblings that predeceased her. Her brothers Gerard, Paul, and Eugene, as well as her sisters Cecile, and Marguerite, were always in her heart.

She is survived by her five sons David Chuckran and his wife Janine of Kingston MA, Paul Chuckran and Elaine Giniewicz of Port Hadlock WA, John Chuckran and his wife Fidelma of Bourne MA, Mark Chuckran of Houston, TX, and Alan Chuckran and his wife Christina of Litchfield, NH. “Gramma Chuck” will be missed by her grandchildren, Kimberly, Ian, Hailey, Matthew, Meagan, Sarah, Peter, Joshua and Rebecca, as well as her great grandchildren, Lillian, Andrew and Amalia.

There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday May 18, 2019 at 11:00am in St. Mark’s Parish, One South Road, Londonderry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities New Hampshire 2019, 215 Myrtle Street, Manchester, NH 03104-4354.
