Obituary

Charles E. Penders, Jr., age 76 of Canton passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Tufts Medical Center on February 28th. Born and raised in Boston he attended St. Gregory's. After graduating from Mission High School Charlie went on to Boston State College earning his degree in English. Mr. Penders taught English at Boston Public Schools for several years before beginning his 42 year career as a Classified Advertising Executive at the Boston Globe. Charlie has been a resident of Canton for 52 years and was an active member in the Canton Lions club, and was a Melvin Jones recipient. After his retirement he enjoyed driving the senior bus for 12 years, was a constable for the town of Canton, and loved spending time with his friends and family. He was also a member of the Boston Globe Fish and Game and a Friend of Bill W. for 34 years. A devoted husband of 58 years to Barbara-Anne (Kelley). Father of Charles E. Penders III, of Augusta, Georgia, Christopher J. Penders and his wife Cheryl and her children: Jared and Evan, and grandson : Maverick of Holbrook, Jeffrey D. Penders and his wife Crystal of Canton and the late Suzanne M. Penders. Proud Papa of Georgia-Ann, Violet and Scarlet Penders. Brother of Barbara O'Brien and her husband James of Abington. Brother in law of Thomas Kelley of Boston and Karen Kelley of CT. He is also survived by many well loved nieces and nephews. The family would like to specifically thank the Canton Fire Department, Norwood Hospital, Tufts Medical Center, and John Scott Rehabilitation Center for their love, compassion and excellent care they provided during his illness. Visting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Monday from 4-8pm. Funeral mass at St. Gerard Majella Church, Canton Tuesday morning at 11:00. Burial private.
