Obituary


Robert Westberg, died on Monday February 11, 2019 at the age of 85. He came from an immigrant Swedish parents from Findland. His mother was Mary Mangs and his father Carl Westberg. He had one brother, Harold Westberg who was about ten years older than him predeceased him. Robert died in Florida where he has been living for the past 2 years.
Robert Westberg was born and raised in Worcester, MA on Belmont Hill. His parents divorced when he was 3 years old and he was raised by his mother as a single parent.
He married Audrey Lescord and had two children Donna and Linda. Audrey predeceased him.
His nick name in childhood was Homer and this is the name he was called by his wife and family. After his wife died, he adopted the nick name for Robert which is Bob.
Homer, as most commonly known by, was an iron worker who did welding and he was part of the Local 57 ironworkers union in Worcester, MA. He enjoyed rehabbing his former 3 family home in the Greendale area of Worcester over the years. His hobby was photography. He even developed his own dark room. He frequently enjoyed visits to Barnes and Nobles and was an avid reader of history books and movies. He loved his coffee. He enjoyed telling stories especially about his childhood, his time as an ironworker and his days in the army. Homer was a Veteran who served about 2 years in the Korean War.
Homer has two grandchildren, John and Daniel and a son in law, Bob. These are the children and husband of his daughter Donna. Homer enjoyed going to Donna’s home to have dinner every Sunday while she raised her boys. He also was participated in all the holidays and some vacations. He particularly enjoyed his vacation to Prince Edward Island with Donna’ s family. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow. Linda, also his daughter, was also a regular part of Donna’s family while she lived in Massachusetts and raised her children. She has been a special addition to others and always appreciative of what others offered. She was a real blessing to have in their lives and continues to be so.
Homer had a sense of humor and could easily amuse others and was good at getting others to laugh. He will be remembered for the humor he added to others lives.
During the last two years, Homer lived in Florida where he was able to enjoy the weather and the conveniences of the community in which he lived.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 10-11 a.m. in Nordgren Funeral Home 300 Lincoln St. Worcester, MA 01605. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery 180 Grove St. Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations in Homer's memory may be made to Veterans Inc. 69 Grove St. Worcester, MA 01605.
