Obituary

Eileen Ann (Anthony) Medeiros, 94, of Dartmouth died Monday, January 21, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness. She spent her last days surrounded by her loving family.

Eileen was born in New Bedford and lived a long, happy, full life. She graduated from New Bedford High School in 1943. She married Joseph C. Medeiros, Jr. on July 4, 1947 and they raised their three children in the South End. She worked at Humphrey, Covill & Coleman as an insurance secretary for nearly 50 years until her retirement in 1990. She was a loving and supportive mother, guiding her three children into adulthood after the sudden death of her beloved husband in 1973. She was everything a grandmother should be: supportive, patient and proud. She doted over her great-grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them. She was fiercely independent with a sharp mind and a quick wit. She was an avid reader, an excellent cook and enjoyed watching television game shows.

Eileen is survived by her daughters Maureen Allain and her husband Bernard, and Rachel Cardullo and her husband Paul of Dartmouth; her grandchildren Nicole Allain and Jaime Dore of Dartmouth, Matthew Allain and his wife Jillian of Fairhaven, Adam Cardullo of Charlotte, NC, Colton Medeiros of Fall River and Lucas Medeiros of New Bedford; her great-grandchildren Grayson, Kennedy, Sydney, Carson and Addison, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be reunited in heaven with her husband Joseph C. Medeiros, Jr., her son Kevin Joseph Medeiros, her sister Ada Salzburg of FL and her brother Joseph Anthony of FL.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 11 a.m. from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Road, Dartmouth at 12 noon. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 3-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
