Bertha Mae (Perry) Woodfin, 90, died Saturday, January 19th at Seashore Point Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Provincetown. She was married to Edward R. Woodfin for 49 years, until his death in 2006.
Born in Provincetown, she was a 1946 graduate of Provincetown High School. After graduation, she attended John Doscher’s Country School of Photography in Woodstock Vt. and then worked for the Houston Studio in Montpelier. In 1951, Bertha returned to Massachusetts to work at the Polaroid Corp during the early development phase of the film that created ‘instant’ photography.
During the winter months, Bertha worked for the Provincetown Boston Airlines, which was founded four years earlier. She also worked for Mohawk Airlines and Broman Flying Service in Keene NH during the warmer months.
Returning to Cape Cod full-time, she worked at Blue Waters in Yarmouth, at the Yarmouth School Cafeteria and she did child care work. She also was co-owner of Perry’s cottages, a family business since the 1930’s.
Bertha was a member of the Board of Directors of the Cape Cod Campfire Girls and a founding member of Camp Nan-ke-rafe, Brewster. In 1966, she was a building committee member for St David’s Episcopal Church in South Yarmouth, and volunteered with the Pan-Mass Challenge for 16 years.
She is survived by daughters Kathy Olsen of Marlborough, NH, Sandy Woodfin of Provincetown and step-daughter Lee Beery of the Villages, Florida.
A Celebration of her Life will be held in the late spring, at a time and date to be announced. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery.
