Obituary

Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Reffi) Hennessy, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the North End Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center in Boston. She was 86 years of age.

Betty was born in Boston on January 23, 1932, a daughter of the late Manlio Reffi and Annie (Abate) Reffi. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Girls High School. Betty furthered her education and attended Boston Business School . Betty worked as an Accounting Clerk at the Bunker Hill Health Center in Charlestown and retired in 1994 following 28 years of dedicated service to the people of Charlestown. She was a member of the Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association and her greatest enjoyment in her life besides being so very proud of her 3 sons and their families was sitting out at Monument Square and greeting people and tourists each day with her vibrant personality which she was known as a member of The Lovely Ladies of Monument Square. Betty also enjoyed reading in her spare time.

Betty is the beloved wife of the late Francis J. "Butsy" Hennessy. She is the devoted mother of Frank Hennessy and his wife Elaine, Boston Police Officer Mark Hennessy and his wife Maureen and Chris Hennessy and his wife Sheila. She is the loving Nana to Colleen and her husband Cory, Kelly and her husband Andrew, Frank, Mark, William, Grace and her great-granddaughter Hailey. She is the beloved sister of Frances Smith, Marco Reffi and the late Rena Tripp. She is also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Betty's Funeral on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham. Her visiting hours will be on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 3 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
