Obituary

Margaret Sara (Reed) Mishou, 77, of Hanson passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Margaret was known by many names: Marty, “Rita”, Auntie Margaret, Mom and Mimi.

Margaret was born on May 20, 1941 in Middleboro, MA. She was the oldest child of John and Sara (Barksdale) Reed. Growing up, Margaret loved to spend time at her grandparents’ farm in Acushnet, where she came to love and appreciate nature. The family eventually settled in Whitman in 1954.

Margaret graduated from Whitman (Hanson) High School in 1959. She married the love of her life, Lawrence Mishou of Whitman, on August 1, 1959. In 1962 they bought a new house and moved just over the Whitman line, into Hanson, and together raised their six children. It was in this home she took on the greatest role of her life, Mother.

Margaret was a server at the Toll House in Whitman in her youth. She worked alongside Ruth Wakefield in the kitchen, where she developed her love for cake decorating. She was very active in helping her husband Larry in their business ventures through the years. Mostly, Margaret was a homemaker, who made everyone feel at home! She was caring, funny, compassionate, a great cook and always singing. Margaret loved to travel, and over the years, she and Larry vacationed together in 48 States.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Lawrence Mishou. She leaves behind 2 sons: Lawrence Kendall Jr. and his wife Vicki of Whitman; John William and his wife Kristin of Hanson. Four daughters: Vicki Lynn Aghajanian and her husband David of Hanson; Linda Marie Theriault and her husband Jack of Middleboro; Sheila Ann Gammell of Hanson; Valerie Jean Joanis of Norwell.

She was also blessed with 12 grandchildren: Lawrence K. Mishou III; Nicholas and Alyssa Aghajanian; Michael, Bradley & Travis Gammell; Alison, Sean & Christian Joanis; Marissa, Kyle & Jenna Mishou. Margaret also had 1 great-granddaughter, Braelynn Charlotte. She also leaves behind her brother, William Reed of CA and sister, Corinne Irvine of MT, as well as all of her extended Barksdale family.

Visiting hours will be held at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the Rotary) Whitman on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 4-7pm. Friends and relatives are invited to share their stories about Margaret immediately after at a Celebration of Life at the Whitman VFW, Essex Street from 7-11pm. A private burial will be held.
