DRACUT - John Patrick Monahan, age 60, an Auto Body Repairman for over forty years, died unexpectedly at his workplace on Wednesday morning, January 9, from an apparent Heart Attack. He was the beloved husband for twenty-four years, of Deborah Jean (Bowser) Monahan, who died in 2002.
John was born in Chelsea in 1958, one of four children of the late Martin J. Monahan Sr. and Alice (Olson) Monahan, and raised in Chelsea. He was a graduate of the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School in Wakefield. He moved to Tewksbury to raise his family in 1986, and after the loss of his wife, moved to Dracut in 2004.
His entire forty-two years career as an auto body mechanic has been with the Fred M. Susan Auto Body company in Somerville.
John was a well known and universally liked “weekend regular” at Joker’s Lounge in Dracut.
He is survived by a son and daughter, Kevin P. Monahan of Pelham, NH and Megan M. Monahan, of No. Andover; three grandchildren, Dana, Dillon, and Hanna; brothers and sisters, Martin Monahan Jr. and his wife Maureen (Silas) of Chelsea, Paul Monahan and his wife Deborah (Sullivan) Monahan of Lowell, Florence (Monahan) Iacona and her husband Daniel of Amesbury; sisters-in-law Darlene Ligon of NH, and Doreen Tremblay and her husband Frank of FL; friends at Joker’s Lounge; and many nieces and nephews.
MONAHAN - Visiting hours Monday, January 14, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. His funeral will begin Tuesday, January 15, at 9:00 from the Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury.
