Obituary

Nikolla Beka, 79, of Shrewsbury died Wednesday, January 2nd in UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Sofia (Ziakas) Beka; two sons, Dimitri Beka and his wife, Ana and Spiro Beka and his wife, Athina all of Shrewsbury; two grandchildren, Nikolaos and Stefania; cousins in Springfield and New York; and many nieces and nephews in Greece. He was predeceased by a brother, Petros Beka.
He was born in Longos, North Epirus, Albania the son of Fotios and Eleni (Gouzounis) Beka. Nikolla was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was a teacher for many years in Albania. His passion was teaching children and inspiring their lives. Nikolla enjoyed to socialize with others and attended the Worcester Adult Care Center. He loved his home village and dreamed of going back to visit someday.
His funeral is Monday, January 7th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a service at 11:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are Sunday, January 6th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
