Obituary

Dorothy M. (Gilmore) Shea, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Marian Manor Nursing Home in South Boston. She was 95 years of age.

Dorothy was born in Boston on September 4, 1923, a daughter of the late Clarence Gilmore and Ruth (Tyng) Gilmore. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Dorothy was a homemaker most of her adult life where she dedicated herself to her husband and children. She enjoyed showing off her artistic talents throughout her life, where she would make her own clothes and dresses for special events, making nativity sets and painting them herself, which she passed on to each one of her 7 children for them to have in their own home. She enjoyed visiting the Golden Age Center in Charlestown where she participated in many activities but her most enjoyment in her life was her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all the accomplishments that each one of them have achieved.

Dorothy is the beloved wife of the late Robert J. "Buttsy" Shea Jr. She is the devoted mother of Robert J. Shea III and his wife Claire of Charlestown, Paul M. Shea and his wife Catherine of Stoneham, Patricia A. Fryzel and her husband Karl of Brewster, Michael F. Shea and his wife Diane of Medford, Kathleen M. Frechette and her husband Gene of South Boston, Anne T. Haymond and her husband Ben of Carlsbad, California and David Shea and his wife Lynne of Scituate. She is the loving Nana to Christine Harrington, Matthew M. Shea, Paul M. Shea Jr., Erin C. Calla, Catherine Fryzel, Carolyn Verge, Jennifer Fryzel, Michaeleagh Broadbent, Robert Shea, Gene Frechette, Brian Frechette, Lauren Shea, Brendan Shea, Nathan Haymond, Justin Haymond and her 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. She is the beloved sister of the late Robert Gilmore. She is also survived by her loving Gilmore nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dorothy's Funeral on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Her visiting hours will be on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 2 to 6 P.M. in the funeral home.
