Obituary

Randy Rodgers, 63, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, December 9, 2018, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at Christian Fellowship, with the Rev. Rex Johnson officiating and Jeff Sharpe delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Arp Cemetery, Irwin County, Georgia. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Rodgers was born December 2, 1955, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Perry Lee & Iris Louisa Westbury Rodgers. He graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1973 and received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Valdosta State College. Mr. Rodgers lived in the community all of his life and owned and operated Modern Appliance. He was offered positions with Maytag and Frigidaire, but remained faithful to the family business and the community. He was very active in the Downtown Business Association for years. He served his community for over 30 years as a member and Chief of the Ben Hill Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Rodgers was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and runner. He was a founding member of the Ben Hill Hash House Harriers. Mr. Rodgers was a member of Christian Fellowship and served on the pastor committee and leadership team. In his youth he was a member of the New Generation Singers.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Dianne Sharpe Rodgers of Fitzgerald; a brother and his wife, Al & Vickie Rodgers of Ocilla; brothers-in-law: Jeff & Stephanie Sharpe of Reynolds and Henry & Tonya Sharpe of Ft. Valley; mother-in-law, Mae Sharpe of Fitzgerald; nieces and nephews: Christy & Alex Lee of Alpharetta, David & Sally Chapman of Milledgeville, Tyler & Brittany Sharpe of Perry, Ryan Sharpe of Reynolds, and Elexis Sharpe of Ft. Valley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents: Joe & Edna Rodgers of the Arp Community and Alfred & Louisa Westbury of England and a sister, Gina Rodgers McEachern.
