Obituary

Donald M. Messina, 85 of Bedford, NH died Sunday December 9, 2018 in the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont, NH. He was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Michael and Mary (Powles) Messina. He was a resident of Bedford for over 30 years. Donald was a Commander in the US Navy and Reserves. He was also the founder and first Commanding Officer of the Naval Sea Cadet Division in Manchester, NH.

He was a graduate of the Massachusetts School of Pharmacy as a Pharmacist and later employed as a salesman for Eli Lilly & Co. Don served this community for over 50 years and received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the NH Independent Pharmacists Association.

He is survived by four sons, Stephen Messina and wife Cathy of Lebanon, NH, Brian Messina and wife Laura of Fremont, Christopher Messina of San Francisco, CA, and Timothy Messina and wife Lauren of Bedford. Four daughters, Carole Jones and husband Tom of W. Monroe, LA, Cathleen Moore and husband David of Falmouth, MA, Suzanne Rocheleau and husband Mathieu of Falmouth, MA, and Leianne Kyle and husband Scott of Sandy Springs, GA; twenty grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Messina and wife Yolanda of Windham, NH; one sister, Marylou Weiss and husband Rick of Chesepeake, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Following cremation, a calling hour was held on Saturday December 15, 2018 from 10 to 11:00 am at the Crossing Life Church, 122 North Lowell Rd., Windham. A celebration of his life followed at 11:00 am. The Peabody Funeral Homes, 15 Birch St., Derry assisted the family with arrangements.
