Obituary


Marabelle E. Derr, 100, passed away December 6, 2018 at Countryside Manor in Anderson following a brief illness.
She was born on April 28, 1918 in Anderson, the daughter of Charles and Lena (Bowman) Roof. She graduated from Anderson High School and attended Butler University where she was a lifetime member of Alpha Chi Omega. She was employed in civil service in the Enlisted Records and Evaluation Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison retiring in 1985. She was a life long member of Anderson Church of the Brethren and was active in the community as a volunteer at St. Vincent's Hospital, the Paramount Theater, RSVP, and Love Bears. She also worked as a demonstrator for Show and Tell at various local groceries. She was a 50 year member of Order of the Eastern Star #154.
She is survived by her daughter, Jo Arlene "Jody" and husband Ron Lee of Anderson; two grandchildren, Rachelle (Brad) Gabbard of Denver, CO, Nathan (Andrea) Pershing of Middletown; four great grandchildren, Ridge Pershing and Kanyon Pershing of Middletown, and Jackson and Marley Gabbard of Colorado; five nieces, Karen Malin, Bonnie Patten, Connie Gilan, Kathy Barter and Nancy Gephart and nephew, Randy Gephart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Greg Derr in 2000, and her sister Norma Koivisto in 2001.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 2PM at Rozelle Johnson Funeral Service with Pastor Spencer Spaulding and Dr. John Bunch officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Anderson Church of the Brethren or the Paramount Theatre.
