Obituary

Allen, George Lee of Wellesley, December 5, 2018, devoted husband and father of four daughters, passed away at home at the age of 85. George was a true son of New England, born on May 19, 1933 in Chelsea, MA, and raised by his mother, Louise Marie Bianco, and father, Frederick Harley Bradley. He attended the University of New Hampshire, where he earned a BS in Chemical Engineering, graduating in 1954. He then returned to Boston where he began his career with Stone & Webster Engineering, where he rose to become the head of the New York Office and Vice President of International Operations. He relished the many years he spent working at Stone & Webster, and followed this chapter of his career by becoming President of Combustion Engineering and ABB Lummus Crest.

George’s work afforded him the opportunity to travel the world, and upon an auspicious stint in Germany, he met his future bride, Martha Bruning. The two were married in Coesfeld on June 10, 1961, and together they raised their daughters in Summit, NJ and Wellesley, MA.

George was an avid fisherman, bird watcher, photographer, gardener, and, albeit later in life, poet. He adored his friends and family. His tremendous energy and enthusiasm for life will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha Allen, his children, Heike Allen (Wes Overson), Jill Allen (Kenneth Graves), Kirsten Allen (Kathleen Krivak), Jessica Allen (Philip Murphy), and his grandchildren, Wyatt Overson, Miranda Overson, Owen Graves, and Colin Graves.

Reception to follow at the Wellesley College Club from Noon to 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary, 280 Eliot St. Natick, MA 01760.
