Obituary

Isabel A. (Abreu) Barry, age 85, of Brockton, died peacefully on December 3, 2018 at St. Joseph Manor, surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in North Easton, a daughter of the late Manuel S. and Piedade (Vieira) Abreu. Isabel was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School, class of 1951, and Brockton Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1954. She was a devoted nurse, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and caregiver. For over 50 years she was employed in the nursing profession. Isabel was a nurse at Brockton Hospital, West Acres Nursing Home, Goddard Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital. Isabel continued to volunteer at Good Samaritan in her retirement as well as at her local church in Bridgewater. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed family gatherings and being part of their lives. Isabel was an avid sports fan with a special place in her heart for the Red Sox. She got much enjoyment from watching first her children, and then her grandchildren, on the field, in the gym and on stage.

Isabel is survived by her daughter Rosemary Harwood and her husband Dan of Rockville, MD and their children Patrick, Emily, Timmy and Colleen, daughter Diane Croft and her husband Ken of Barre and their children Margaret, Joey and Stephen, son Michael Barry and his wife Kathy of Portsmouth, RI and their child Katherine, daughter Mary Ellen Rogers and her husband Brian of W. Bridgewater and their children Eric and Nicole Benoit, Brian Jr. and Sam Rogers, Kelly Rogers and Maggie Pitts-Dilley and son Shawn Barry and his wife Kim of Bridgewater and their children Camryn, Jack, Luke and Lacey. Isabel was also the great grandmother of Callie, Harper and Paul.

Isabel is the sister of Raymond Abreu and James Abreu and the late Bertha Abreu, Albert Abreu and Mary O’Connell. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and good friends.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte. 123) Brockton on Sunday, December 16th, 2-5 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann’s Church, 103 N. Main Street, W. Bridgewater on Monday, December 17th at 10 am. A private burial at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, N. Easton, will be held at a later date.
