Mike G. Abasta, 88, of Port Hueneme, CA passed away on Dec. 3, 2018 at the Cal Vets Home of West Los Angeles. Mike was born in Douglas, AZ to Manuel and Rosario Abasta on May 5, 1930. Mike earned his GED and enlisted in the US Army in April of 1948. He served honorably until 1952. He was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Legion all his life and was a congregant at Mary Star of the Sea for over 25 years. He worked as a plant supervisor and manager at the Montalvo Sunkist Company and Paramount Packing house until he retired.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Diana Abasta of Burbank, CA and his son, Joe Moore of Port Hueneme, CA.; grandson Logan McConkay and granddaughter Morgan Abasta. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary J. Abasta, his son, Michael Abasta, and daughter, Yvonne Abasta. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or The Veterans of Foreign War. Diana and Joe wish to extend their gratitude to their cousins and aunts and uncles who were there to help during the difficult moments.
Family and friends are invited to a prayer service where a Most Holy Rosary will be recited on Friday February 1, 2019 at 11am in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street Ventura. Interment will follow with Military Honors in Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery, 2370 H Street Oxnard.
