Robert “Thurman” West, 89, of Tifton went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at his residence. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mr. West at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2018, at Tift Memorial Gardens, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Joseph L. Crumley will officiate.
Born July 5, 1929 in Tift County, Mr. West was the son of the late Willie West and Mary Lou Hutchinson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Frances Chapman; and his three brothers, Charlie, James and Vernon West.
Mr. West enjoyed a long career in the automotive business, beginning at age 17 at the Ford dealership. Upon retiring, he remained active in part-time employment and transport of vehicles with other Tifton dealerships until early 2017. He has been a member of Tifton’s First Assembly of God for 63 years, during which time he faithfully served in various areas of leadership.
Mr. West is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia West of Tifton; his daughter, Vickey Campbell of Marietta; his granddaughter, Kelly Campbell of Atlanta; his grandson, Chase Campbell of Raleigh, North Carolina; and his two sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty Turner of Longwood, Florida and Mary and Rick Lacienski of Monterey, Tennessee.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Hospice of Tift Area for their loving care of Mr. West.
