On November 16, 2018 David E. Johnson, Sr. went home to be with the Jesus he loved, passing peacefully in his sleep.
Dave served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps serving honorably in Vietnam. In June of 1966 he married the love of his life Rachel (Durbin) Johnson. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance in 1979 from Tennessee Temple University in the same year he won the Southeastern auditions for the Metropolitan Opera. In 1971 Dave realized his need of a Savior and gave his heart to the Lord. His faith led him to serve as a deacon in several churches, most recently Grace Baptist Church in Muncie where he is a member. Dave served with the Gideon ministry distributing Bibles, the ministry of Reformers Unanimous helping people with addictions, teaching and doing chapel services in the Delaware County Jail, and leading or performing in several church choirs and youth ministries throughout his years of faithful service.
Dave is survived by his wife, Rachel; son David (wife Melissa); son Anthony (wife Jennifer); grandchildren Sarah (Johnson) Brutcher (husband Jacob), Abigail Johnson, and Alexander Johnson; and sister Barbara Cooper (husband Bill). He is preceded in death by his parents James and Barbara Johnson and his brothers James and Michael (wife Lisa) Johnson.
Services will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Muncie, IN on Wednesday November 21, 2018 at 12:00 pm. Visitation for the family begins at 9:00 am and friends are invited at 10:00 am
. The family asks that any donations be made to Grace Baptist Church in the name of the Reformers Unanimous (RU) program.
