Merton Willis Walters, 82, of Ty Ty passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty with the Rev. Rodney Owens officiating. Mr. Walters will be laid to rest at Salem Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Walters will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Dale Pittman, Antonio Viveros, Darren Williams, Dave Gibbs, Josh Luke and Jamie Hartsfield will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Joe Walker, Sr.
Born December 22, 1935 in Tampa, Florida, Mr. Walters was the son of the late Grover Walters and Missouri Elizabeth “M.E.” Pendley Walters. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Walters, who passed away March 10, 2018; and one brother, George Walters. He retired from the United States Navy after 22 years of service and also retired from Miller Brewing Company in Albany. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty.
Mr. Walters is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David and Lisa Walters of Ty Ty; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Joey Walker of Ty Ty; one sister, Ruth Hitchcock Tompkins of Sumner; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica and Darren Williams and David Walters and fiancé, Eva Battraw, who he raised as his own children, Mandi and Lance Norman, Joseph III and Mandy Walker and Jennifer and Antonio Viveros; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Grady Williams, Finn Williams, Everly Williams, Emily Walters, Brynzley Walters, Scarlett Jayde Walters, Britten Walker, Sara Kate Walker, Juliet Viveros, Noah Viveros, Rylan Barnes, Eveah Norman, Cohen Norman and Tiffany Webb.
