Valerie Anne Kelly
Devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother

ANDOVER: Valerie Anne (Layman) Kelly, age 92, recently of Andover, a former longtime resident of Reading, Tewksbury, and Chicago, IL, passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Winchester Hospital.

She was the beloved wife of Daniel J. Kelly, who passed away on March 17, 2007.

Born in Oak Park, IL on April 2, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Patrick R. Layman and the late Mary Jane (Kearns) Layman.

Valerie was raised in Chicago, IL. She attended St. Thomas Aquinas Grammar School and graduated from Trinity High School in River Forest, IL in 1943.

In 1962, she and her late husband moved to Reading, MA, where they raised their four children. While residing in Reading she was a devout communicant and supporter of St. Agnes Church.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Town of Reading in the Assessor's Office and as a secretary for Reading Savings Bank.

In 1993, she and her late husband moved to Tewksbury, where she made many new friends and became a daily communicant at St. William’s Parish.

Valerie will be lovingly remembered for devotion to and love of family, her faith, and her kind heart.

She is survived by her four children, Daniel J. Kelly, Jr. and his wife Carolyn (Kelley) of San Diego, CA, Joseph P. Kelly and his wife Sharon (Coffey) of Coto de Caza, CA, Mary Jane Kelly Gallant and her husband Steven of Andover, and John M. Kelly and his wife Jessie Pecchenino of Littleton; thirteen grandchildren, Stephanie Kelly and her husband Joe Walland, Daniel J. Kelly, III and his fiancee Yu-Lin Gardner, Michael P. Kelly, Danielle A. Kelly, Michael J. Kelly, Jaclyn M. Gagnon and her husband Seth, Amanda J. K. Gallant, Trent S. K. Gallant, Marielle V. K. Gallant, Siobhan E. Baker and her husband Brett, Meaghan A. Kelly and her fiancé Eddy Tavio, Patrick L. Kelly, and Chloe L. Shelford; four great grandchildren, Madelyn and Mckinley Painter, Jane and Liam Gagnon. Valerie was anxiously awaiting the birth of her twin great grandchildren.
She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Valerie was the sister of the late Mary Layman, Patricia McGuire, and Joan Layman.

Calling hours are Friday, Nov. 9, from 4-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Her funeral procession will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
