Obituary

Richard E. Sutton, 76, of Manchester, NH, formerly of Milan, NH, died Saturday October 20, 2018. He was born in Derry, NH on July 29, 1942, the son of the late Thomas and Loretta (Royer) Sutton. He attended Pinkerton Academy in Derry, Class of 1961. After his marriage to Jeanne Marie Cloutier in 1963, they raised their family in Derry and then Chester, NH. Richard was an active parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas in Derry and most recently at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Bedford.

Richard was employed as a truck driver for many years for Brockway-Smith in Andover, MA, retiring in 2004. He served as a volunteer firefighter for the Derry Fire Dept. Richard was Henry Fonda’s personal chauffer during the filming of On Golden Pond. He wrote about his experience in his book Memories of On Golden Pond. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bird watching. Richard also enjoyed watching Boston sports teams.

He is survived by his five children, Robin Gile and her husband Paul of Londonderry, NH, Thomas Sutton and his wife Kari of Berlin, NH, Melinda White and her husband Michael of Campton, NH, Rebecca Gallo and her husband Michael of Bedford, NH, and Kathleen Cochrane and her husband John of Manchester, NH; 21 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Marlene O'Keefe of Arizona, and Connie Creedon of Manchester. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Jeanne Marie (Cloutier) Sutton of May 22, 2018.

Following cremation, calling hours were held on Wednesday, October 24th from 5 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, October 25th at 10:00am in St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 190 Meetinghouse Road, Bedford. The burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, Gilcreast Road, Londonderry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Toys for Tots.
